Nalu’s Story of Safety and Dignity

From a fragile shelter to a home of her own, Nalu’s quiet strength speaks louder than words.

For years, Nalu Tamang lived in a fragile shelter made of tin sheets and tarpaulin. Partially deaf and without close relatives to care for her, she faced life with remarkable resilience — but when the earthquake struck, her world became even more uncertain.

Through Dolma Foundation’s rebuilding programme, Nalu’s story changed. She became one of the first beneficiaries to receive a new earthquake-safe home — built in traditional stone with a concrete tie-beam, designed to endure the tests of time and tremor alike.

The community came together with compassion and purpose. Dolma Foundation provided the materials, labour, and supervision, while neighbours lent their hands and hearts to help build a future for someone who had long stood alone.

Today, Nalu’s new home stands not just as a structure of stone and strength, but as a symbol of dignity and belonging. Though she speaks little, her radiant smile says everything — a silent expression of safety, gratitude, and hope restored.

Hope grows when someone like you reaches out.
